Rosemary is native to the Mediterranean, so it likes well-drained soil and full sun. The wet soil may be the problem, causing root rot: the plant looks like it is dying. It is natural then, for us to want to apply more water, which makes the problem worse! Allow the soil to just barely dry out between watering. In winter, it may not be necessary to water more than once every 7-10 days, or even longer, depending on the soil type, container size, etc. If possible, a location with 6-8 hours of full sun would be better. When temperatures start to warm up in spring, water more frequently and provide protection from hot afternoon sun. In the ground, rosemary can take full sun in summer, but it is difficult for container plants. Good luck! |
