| We had an early cold snap and it hasn't warmed up since. I was in the process of replanting some large Iris that had become overgrown and needed to be divided. There were sooo many that after even I planted several and gave some away I still had quite a few. Well, I ran out of weather to plant them. What should I do now? They have been for the last month or so in the house (cool spot) in a cardboard box between layers of newspaper. Should put them in the unheated basement? Would some make it when planted in the spring? (I know they would flower for awhile) |
| The rhizomes should winter over okay in an unheated basement. They shouldn't completely dry out, but they shouldn't be kept too moist, either. Check them every 3-4 weeks to make sure they're not shriveling up. You might try spritzing them with water and burying them in peat moss or sawdust for the duration of the winter months. Plant them outdoors as soon as the weather permits. Best wishes with your iris! |
