I Planted a beautiful evergreen clematis from Monrovia in the late spring and it died. Suddenly leaves turned brown and dropped off. Will it come back?

If your clematis is growing in well draining soil (the roots didn't become waterlogged), then I would suspect a disease called clematis wilt. This disease enters through a wound in the bark and moves through the plant quickly. There's not much you can do except cut away the affected plant parts and wait for the roots to send up healthy new sprouts in the spring. Best wishes with your clematis!
