Hi there,

I'm in USDA zone 9b, or Sunset zone 17 in West Oakland, CA. I am wondering if a bougainvillea would grow well on an East-facing wall?

Are there any varieties that are more pastel in color, not quite so intensely saturated?

thank you

Bougainvillea grows well in Oakland and comes in dozens of colors. Not all are intense. Try Arborea, a pale lilac color, Imperial Delight with white and lilac colors, Gold, or Sundown orange. These cultivars offer both hardiness and muted colors which might be perfect for your garden.

Best wishes with your landscape!
