My rose climber is shedding most of it's leaves. I'm new to roses--- is this normal? If not, what do I do?

It's normal for roses to lose their leaves and to go through a period of dormancy (resting). The leaves usually fall off with the first frost of the season. In warm winter areas the plants stop growing but sometimes they don't lose their leaves until February, just before new leaves develop. I think you'll see new leaves appear within the next 4-5 weeks. Best wishes with your climber!
