Guapple is an atemoya cultivar, sometimes called big guava. My research indicates it's a guava-apple hybrid and it is more suited to growing in Florida where the heat and humidity are similar to that experienced in the Philippines. I cannot find a source for you in southern California, but you may want to try contacting the California Rare Fruit Growers for a source. Sometimes the members there will share cuttings of the fruit stock they're growing. (http://www.crfg.org)
