Ornamental grasses including Cortaderia selloana 'Pumila' (sometimes called 'Ivory Feathers') are cut back every year, either in late fall or in very early spring preferably before the daffodils bloom in your garden. Cut it down as short as you can, within a couple of inches of the ground.
