My fig trees are sprouting out and we are about to get a bad freeze. Is there anything i should do like cover them or just let nature take it's course?

Barb,

I apologize for this delayed reply to your gardening question and hope it is still helpful to you. Covering the fig can help since it generally doesn't go too far below freezing there. Figs are a bit of a gamble in mid parts of Texas due to winter cold. Wait until spring about mid April to do any pruning. When it sprouts you will be able to tell if the tree was killed back or is putting out new growth from the still living branches. Then cut back any non sprouting branches.

Thanks for the question. Best wishes for a wonderful gardening year in 2007. Please stop in again soon!
