| We have three dogs and a fenced back yard. From early Spring to Fall, we have a thick plush lawn. We clean the yard weekly of debris. Now that winter is here, and the rain, the grass is gone and I have a mud pit for a back yard now. Is there anything I can do before spring to minimize the mud and standing water on what used to be my yard? HELP! |
| Unfortunately, dogs and lawn tend to be a difficult combination. Over time, the dogs will compact the soil by running on it when it is wet and tear up the turf to such an extent that you will probably need to renovate the lawn or start again from scratch. Ideally, the best thing for the lawn would to keep traffic to a minimum by preventing the dogs from running on it. Some dog owners accomplish this by fencing off a certain area as a dog run and covering it with gravel to keep the mud to a minimum. Other than that, there really isn't much you can do except make sure that the surface drainage pattern is adequate to allow runoff to drain away as it should. I wish I could be more encouraging. |
