| We are in the middle of a three day ice storm in San Antonio. We of course covered everything tender, however we are now concerned about some of our everygreens. We have a lugustrom that has grown into a 7ft tree. It has so much ice on it the limbs are hanging. Please tell me it will survive! The other is our Sago plant. It is covered in ice as well. It has been in the ground about 10yrs and is approximately 4ft tall. When you know you are going to have accumulation of ice for several days, even in a city such as San Antonio that is typically tropical, would you still recommend covering evergreen shrubs. | Patty, I apologize for this delayed reply to your gardening question and hope it is still helpful to you. Your plants have probably recovered fine from the ice. Remove any broken limbs and prop any bent trunks or branches back into place for a month or two to restraighten them. Covering shrubs is fine even with ice.
