I just moved to Florida and want to have a palm tree near the pool area. What type of palm grows in a container? I have a screened porch so height will be an issue. If I can't grow a palm, what other tropical plant do you suggest for this pool area?

Many palms are slow growing and suitable for growing in containers. You might consider Livistonia Chinensis (Chinese Palm), or Bottle Palm (Hyophorbe lagenicaulis), which is a dwarf palm. A final suggestion is Phoenix roebelenii (Pygmy Date Palm), which grow 6-8' at maturity.

Best wishes with your new palm!
