| Chilopsis linearis 'monhews' is naturally a multi-branched shrub but can be trained into a single trunked tree by removing all but the strongest upright stem. You can certainly selectively prune your Chilopsis, but I suspect the roots will develop lots of new upward growing stems as the plant matures. At this point, why not wait until your new shrub has been planted in the landscape for about a year (so the roots can become established). Next spring you can determine whether or not it should be pruned to achieve the look you want in your landscape. |
