I planted some knockout roses last June. Should I now prune and fertilize them before spring? Thanks! Jerry Martin

Knock Out roses are very low maintenance roses. In the spring, prune the bush by about two thirds of its height. If necessary, prune more to remove all winter killed canes. Top dress with a good quality compost and a general purpose, slow release, complete fertilizer such as 10-10-10 per the label directions. Replenish the mulch around the root area to maintain it at a depth of about three inches. This will help continue to feed the soil slowly over time as it breaks down. Enjoy your roses!
