Is this a good time of year to plant Holly bushes, or should we wait a few weeks until warmer weather? Also, we are needing a hedge approx. 3' - 4' tall, which type of Holly would be best for this purpose? Thank you. Vickie |
Now is a good time to plant holly. For a small hedge, I'd recommend BENNETT'S COMPACT HOLLY (Ilex crenata 'Bennett's Compacta'). This is a dense, compact shrub with wide, leathery, shiny dark green foliage. It prefers well drained, moist, slightly acid soils so be sure to amend the planting bed with organic matter for optimum growth and performance. Plant in full sun. It is slow growing to 3 to 4 feet tall and 4 to 5 feet wide. Enjoy! |
