The Q&A Archives: Daffodils

Question: I bought a pot of daffodils last week... the flowers are drying out and the leaves are being to turn yellow. How and when do I replant these outdoors?

Answer: You can cut off the flowering stems after the flowers are spent, but leave the foliage to dry out naturally. Once the leaves are dead, cut them off at soil level, unpot the bulbs, and plant them in your garden. You might want to mark the area where you've planted them so you don't forget they are there. Next spring they should send up new leaves and new flowers. Enjoy!
