| every year the figs on our tree look good but when you open them there dried out inside. what causes this and is there anything I can do to correct this or should I just pull it out like my father in law says? |
| It's difficult to say what might be causing the problem. You didn't mention what variety the fig is - if the variety is not suitable to the area, the figs won't ripen, or the flowers may appear earlier than the pollinators (insect activity is retarded when temperatures are too cool). Other reasons for dried out fruit include lack of adequate moisture, inconsistent moisture, excessive nitrogen and insect or disease problems. I suggest taking fruit samples to your local Cooperative Extension office and having them examined under a microscope.
