| I have never planted anything in my life. I want to plant some flowers along the front wall of my house. Something colorful but I don't like bees. Please suggest something for me to start on. |
| Bees are a normal part of having a garden. The good news is that when they are busy visiting flowers, they're usually too busy to notice people. So, don't be too afraid of them - they perform a necessary service to our flowers, transferring pollen. I have found that there are quite a few flowers that rarely attract bees - zinnias, for example and marigolds. I've never seen them on lilacs or mountain laurel, either. Most double flowers don't attract bees because they don't have pollen. Bees don't often visit lobelias, fuchsias, penstemon - the plants that hummingbirds love because of their tubular flowers.
