| I have a foxtail palm which the palm leaves are brown from the cold weather. The tree is not dead. Should I trim off the brown growth so new will grow? I do not want to damage the tree and do not have a green thumb so need advice. The tree was purchased at home depot last spring. thank you. |
| The foxtail palm has one of the most spectacular foliage displays of all palms. The pale green arching fronds have leaflets that radiate out at all angles from the leaf stem, thus appearing like a bottlebrush or the tail of a fox. A mature foxtail palm has a canopy of 8-10 leaves, each with the characteristic foxtail or bottlebrush appearance, and a crown of foliage 15-20 ft across. Any foliage that is brown is dead and you can safely cut it off. Your palm will develop new fronds from the center of the plant so be careful not to damage the top of the plant when you're pruning off the dead parts and it should be fine.
