The Q&A Archives: Yellow Leaves

Question: What does it mean when the leaves on your houseplants turn yellow?

Answer: The answer really depends upon the houseplant, and where the yellow leaves are located on the plant. Houseplants are evergreen, but the leaves only last a year or two before they turn yellow and fall off. If the yellow leaves are the older leaves (those lower down and towards the center) then it's a natural occurance. Your plant will continue to grow healthy new leaves and sometimes plants will replace lost leaves If the yellowing leaves are all over the plant, it can indicate over-watering or lack of sufficient light, or a need to be fed.
