| This past winter we rescued two miniature horses and allowed them to roam over our front lawn (fenced it of course!). Now we'd like to restrict them to another area and reclaim our front area. I'm sure the soil is acidic...any suggestions? Thanks. Sandi |
| You would need to run some soil tests to check the pH and see, based on the soil test results, how much lime to apply. The test results will also tell you how much fertilizer is needed. You could also overseed the area in early spring; do this before your last frost date so the heaving action of frosts help work the seed into the soil. It will then germinate when the soil warms up. Meanwhile, as soon as it begins to grow be sure to mow frequently so you never remove more than one third of the grass height at a time. Set your mower blades at two inches in spring then raise them to three inches for the summer. This will help shade out weeds. Good luck with your lawn this summer and please give the horses a little baby carrot or two for me. |
