| A friend gave us some bulbs a number of years ago. He told me at that time what they were and how to get them to bloom. It happened just once and I think it was just by luck we got it right. I think it was more due to mother nature then us. It might have something to due with cutting them back after the green foilage finished coming up ,then cutting them back to the ground thereby forcing the flower to bloom. Does any of this sound like any plant you know of? Thanks Stan |
| Stanley, That doesn't sound correct. A bulb's green foliage should be left until it yellows to allow time to replenish the stored energy in the bulb so it can bloom the following year. I don't know what bulbs you might have had but many types are very picky about what conditions they want to bloom right. They may bloom when you plant them initially since the bloom buds are already set inside the bulb, but then in your garden setting they fail to set bloom buds again or do so only in some years. If you can take a photo or a long leaf to a garden center or botanical garden perhaps they can identify the bulb and suggest ideal growing conditions. Thanks for the question.
