How do I get rid of snails/slubs on my hostas? I would like a remedy that is environmentaly sound.

There are several things you can do. One is to hand pick them in the evening when they are active. (Drop them into soapy water.) Some gardeners use traps baited with stale beer. Or, you can use the newer commercial baits that are formulated with iron phosphate (Sluggo is one). These are safe for people and animals (except slugs and snails). You can also rake and disturb your mulch in the spring as they begin to emerge for the season, avoid watering in the evening, and encourage their natural predators such as toads and birds. I hope this gives you some ideas.
