I want to take advantage of getting the trees and shrubs I want while you have them in stock. However, I might not be able to plant them for a week. What do you recommend I do to care for them, between purchase and planting? Watering the burlap, keeping it out of the sun, etc...

Place them in a sheltered spot with wind protection. Morning-only sun would be ideal. Water if needed to keep the soil slightly moist, do not let them dry out. You could heap mulch over the burlap as well. (Then use the mulch on the soil surface when you plant.) It is best to plant as soon as you possibly can, it is difficult to hold plants successfully for more than a few days.
