I want to start a flower bed around the front of my home. The soil has never been turned, it is just grass and weeds. I have started by tilling the ground in the shape i want the bed. I just don't know what the next step is as far as adding different soils and fertilizers. Please help me get started.

Rototilling is the first step. Once you've tilled the area, rake out all the old weeds and roots, along with any large stone or pieces of wood you might find. Rake the area smooth and then spread 3-4 inches of organic matter over the top of the entire bed. Dig this in to a depth of about 8", then rake the bed smooth again. It will be ready to plant.

Best wishes with your garden!
