My Blue Girl Holly has some brown sections of leaves from this winter. When and how should I prune these sections? Thanks, Jeni

Early spring, just as new growth begins, is the best time to prune away winter damage. I'd cut the branches back to live wood, even if that means cutting them back to the trunk. If you must remove an entire branch, your holly will compensate for the empty space by growing new branches which will eventually cover the bare space.

Best wishes with your landscape!
