The Q&A Archives: Planting Lily of the Valleys Bulbs

Question: I purchased 2 bags of lily of the valley bulbs. I am new at gardening and I think I planted the bulb the wrong way. Was I suppose to plant the entire bulb or leave the stringy particles above ground??? There were these claw like roots that I planted in the ground and left the stringy things above.

Answer: The claw thing is the crown, roots grow from one side of the crown and the stems grow from the other. Based on your description, I think the string things are the roots. I think you may have planted them upside down. You can replant them, they will probably be just fine. But do it as soon as you can.
