Tree planted for about 8 months. Leaves are beginning to turn brown as if tree is dying. Is it too late to save the tree?

Gene,

Probably not too late. Keep the soil moist but not soggy. Don't fertilize as fertilizer can burn roots on a new planting and cause leaf browning. Give it time and hopefully with the arrival of warm weather new growth will begin to appear in the center. Winter cold could be the cause of the browning too.
