Good afternoon, this is my first time starting a garden or growing anything at all. I would like to have a vegetable and fruit garden , I bought a few plants ( strawberry, green peppers, eggplant.. ) aver the week end . What is the best way for me to plant and get result and how many times a day should I water them ? By the way what other type of plants can I buy that will require the same amount of care ? I would also like to plant some flowers in front of the house , any suggestion on what i should buy?. They will be expose to a lot of sun , I would like the finish product to look very colorful. Please keep in mind that that i do not have a green thumb.

Sendy,

Welcome to gardening! My advice is to prepare the soil before you plant by adding an inch deep layer of compost and mixing it in well. This is a very important first step. Then plant your plants and water them in well. You should only have to water once a day for a couple of weeks and then as they get established you should be able to back off slowly to twice a week.

Don't get discouraged if everything doesn't do well the first try. Just keep learning and trying things. Visit local botanical gardens and home gardens that you admire for plant ideas. Some easy to grow plants include bulbine, yellow bells (Tecoma stans), Salvia 'Indigo Spires', and lantana. For vegetables squash and green beans are pretty easy.
