My pansies are covered w/insects. I think it may be aphids. I sprayed an insecticidal soap solution but it didn't take care of the problem. Now some of the leaves appear to have blackened. Should I pull them up since it's late in the season or is there another type of non harmful solution I can try?

Dianne,

Insecticidal soap is quite effective against aphids if mixed properly and applied thoroughly. So I'm not sure which pest you are seeing. You Parish Extension Office is a source of free help in getting those pests identified and a solution prescribed. I would probably pull them up at this point as there is little use in saving them now that early April around the corner. There are many warm season flowers that could be planted now to carry you on into summer.
