How do I get rid of Creeping Charley and wild violets? |
Both Creeping Charlie and wild violets are very difficult to control unless you dig them out roots and all. The problem with both these weeds is that they have thick root systems which store food. If you whack the tops off these plants they usually have enough carbohydrates stored in the roots to produce new leaves and stems. So, the first line of defense is digging these pesky weeds out, roots and all. If you need to resort to chemical control, you'll want to find a selective herbicide - one that kills only broadleaf weeds, not grasses. 2-4,D is one such broadleaf weed killer. Vegetation killers such as Round-Up can kill everything it touches so avoid it for spot treating weeds. Best wishes with your landscape! |
