A large section of my yard is in a low area and it retains water most of the year making it impossible to mow. What can I do to help either drain this land or soak up some of the water? We have a small ditch that was started by the previous owner that holds water in it but there is still a lot of ground that is soggy?

You very well may have to extend and deepen the existing ditch to further drain the water. I've had good luck in digging a deep ditch, lining it with gravel and then placing plastic drain pipe on the gravel. Surround the drain pipe with additional gravel and then top it with soil. Water trickles down through the holes in the drain pipe and is out of sight until it is absorbed by the soil. Hope this works for you!
