I live in western New York state. When sould I prune my climbing

If there are any dead or damaged canes, go ahead and remove them now. If this is a new rose, it is a good idea to allow it to grow long canes the first two years without pruning them back. Beginning the third year, prune it in early spring to cut back laterals where it is overly long. Keep in mind this is a very big rose. Enjoy!
