What time of year is the best time to put in new St. Augustine grass sod in the Dallas, Texas area? How often should you water new sod?

Nancy,

The best time is early April on through the early part of summer although you can sod any time on through about September if you like. Roll the new sod with a turf roller to get good contact with the underlying soil. Then water lightly every day for a week or so before changing to every other day for another week and then twice a week for a couple more weeks. After that a once a week schedule should be fine unless your soil is very sandy and the extreme heat of summer requires more than once a week irrigation.
