Answer: Based on your description I think you might want to use this as a cachepot rather than plant directly in it. Any container you plant in must have working drainage holes in the bottom to let excess water out. You could put a layer of gravel in the bottom of the flower box and then set regular utilitarian flower pots on that. Then water carefully to minimize the excess collecting in the bottom. Or, use a saucer under each pot to catch the excess but be sure to empty the saucer after watering. Or, take the pots out to water, allow them to drain, then return to the box. Your plants should cover the edge of the containers so nobody can tell that is what you did. When you pot up your plants, use a good quality soil-less mix formulated for container plants.
