I recently received light purple Calla Lillies. They have all bloomed, although they appear somewhat crowded. I would like to continue to cultivate them. Should I put them outside? |
Native to South Africa, your calla's would be quite unhappy if placed outside right now. Once the blooms have died off, withhold water until the leaves dry up. Dig the rhizomes out of the pot and store in sawdust or peat moss. After the weather warms, you can repot the rhizomes and place them outdoors. The pots can remain outdoors until late summer. Then withhold water until the foliage dries up. Dig the rhizomes and store them in sawdust or peatmoss. In the spring, repot and resume watering. The plants will flower again for you during the summer months. |
