I am a new lawn owner and have a thriving clover lawn. How do I get grass to grow and get rid of the clover/ dandelion/ sticker weeds. I need an economical fix. |
Jennifer, Most of the winter weeds will soon by dying. If you have a considerable amount of grass remaining I suggest a close mowing now followed by mowing weekly at a height of 2 1/2 inches. Fertilize in mid April with 7 pounds of 15-5-10 or a similar blend per 1000 square feet. Then water the fertilizer in with 1/2 inch of irrigation. Continue the regular mowing and water weekly to make your turf dense. In a season or two this along will choke out most weed problems. If you wish to use herbicides your County Extension Office can suggest some options based on the weeds and the time of year. Thanks for the question. Please stop in again soon! |
