Hello, I am searching for a hardy plant that will grow in a shady area, but can stand a wer area, and may even be able to survive an occasional flood. Thanks |
There are a number of plants you could possibly use. You might consider the twig dogwood shrubs such as Cornus stolonifera, the deciduous hollies (Ilex verticillata), or perhaps the evergreen inkberry shrub, Ilex glabra. Additional deciduous shrubs to consider would include Aronia arbutifolia, Clethra, and Itea virginica. Some ferns will tolerate a very wet area as well. Depending what actually happens when it floods, you might also be able to grow perennials such as Astilbe, Chelone, Lobelia cardinalis, Alchemilla, and Arisaema in the area. You may need to experiment and see what does best for you there. Good luck with your project! |
