The Q&A Archives: Fast growing

Question: We live in a new development area where our back yard faces a drainage area. We have nothing to look at in the back except the drainage area and the other house on the other side. What kind of fast growing trees would be good including flowering trees. Want about three trees running along the back for privacy.

Answer: Among the fastest growing trees for your region, Lombardy Poplar tops the list, followed by Leyland Cypress, American Sycamore and Norway Spruce. Flowering trees are deciduous so you'll have only bare branches during the winter months. If that's okay, consider planting Yoshino cherry, Empress tree, or Dogwood.

You might find even more choices when you visit your local nursery.

Best wishes with your new landscape!
