Zinnias grow best in full sunshine - in fact they love hot weather and will flower best during the dog-days of summer. They prefer to be watered at soil level, rather than from overhead. Give them rich, well-draining garden soil and fertilize every threeweeks with a 5-10-10 fertilizer. You can enrich the garden soil with generous amounts of compost, aged manure, or other organic matter prior to planting your zinnias. Just spread a 4-6 inch layer of the organic matter over the bed and work it into the soil to a depth of 6-8 inches.
