What kind of fertilizer should I purchase in the northern part of NJ.

The answer to your question depends on what you are trying to grow and also on the condition of the soil where it is growing. You might want to consult with your local county extension to run some basic soil tests and help interpreting the results based on what you are trying to grow. In general, a slow release granular fertilizer is a good choice. Always read and follow the label directions for any product you use.
