| I just bought a forsythia (approx. 5' tall, 2' wide) and it's presently in a container. I will be landscaping our yard this year, but am not ready to move to outside projects just yet. I'm wondering how long I can keep the forsythia in its container before planting it and how often I should water it while in the container. |
| Your forsythia should be quite content in its container for another year. After that, either plant in the ground or repot into a larger container. As for watering, containerized plants need watering much more frequently than plants in the ground. Place a saucer under the container to collect runoff water and then water fully until the saucer becomes filled with water. Pick up the container after you've thoroughly soaked the growing medium so you'll know how heavy it should be when completely hydrated, then every 2-3 days, pick it up again. If it feels light, water. If not, you can skip watering for a day or two. Best wishes with your landscape! |
