| Most peach varieties are self-pollinating, so you only need to plant one variety. Apples and pears, however, need more than one variety for pollination, and pears will produce best if there are three different varieties in close proximity. It sounds like you will have the makings of a small backyard orchard. In fact, you may even want to purchase an excellent book called The Backyard Orchardist by Stell Otto. It can provide some "hand-holding" throughout your new gardening adventure. |
