| I live in CT and last fall I planted about 30 Canadian Hemlock seedlings to create a natural hedge between me and my neighbors house. Towards the end of the winter alot of the needles turned brown. Can these seedlings be saved? I'm hoping new growth will come now that Spring is here. Thanks! |
| Based on your description this sounds like winter damage. This is a wait and see type of situation as it depends on how severe the damage is. However, you can trim off any truly dead branch tips now. Live wood will be flexible with green inside the bark, dead wood will be dull brown or gray and brittle, it will snap in your hand. Begin at the tips and trim off dead wood, continuing until you reach live wood. Good luck with your little hemlocks! |
