Honeybees are so important to flowering plants that you wouldn't want to do anything to harm them. Bees are generally so busy gathering pollen that they usually don't even notice people are around. If you're afraid of bees (or allergic to them), you can take a few steps to protect yourself. First, avoid wearing fragrances, including aftershave when you're in the yard. A sweet smell can attract bees. And, try not to wear bright colors. They may mistake your shirt for a large flower! If bees approach, don't run and don't wave your arms. The motion will make them even more curious about you and they're likely to follow you. Just walk slowly away and they will lose interest. The best way to keep them away from your home is to plant non-flowering plants. Without flowers to attract them, they'll go to a more colorful part of the garden, or even to a different garden.
