The Q&A Archives: Borers on Blueberry Bushes

Question: I have borers making round holes in my blueberry bushes. Is it safe to spray Lindane?

Answer: Borers are one of the most frustrating insects to battle because they can hide so secretly inside plant stems. Lindane would not be safe to spray on your blueberries, and sprays don't work very well anyway because the insect is protected inside the stem. You can poke a wire into the holes and pierce the larvae, or cut off the affected stems and burn them. Rigorous policing is required to get rid of these pests. Good luck.
