The Q&A Archives: blooming lilac

Question: can you transplant a lilac that is in bud (not blooming yet)?

Answer: It would be risky to transplant a lilac before it blooms. Transplanting can cause enough stress to your shrub that it might drop the unopened buds and you'd miss the spectacular display. Why not wait a few weeks? After the flowers are spent you can safely transplant your lilac.
