Coreopsis should be groomed all season by cutting off spent flowers. When flowering slows or stops, cut the plant back almost to the ground. New stems and flowers will grow, and you'll effectively extend their flowering season. In the fall you can remove all of the foliage and the plant will sprout new leaves, stems and flowers in the spring.
