The Q&A Archives: Persimmon tree: Regular versus Appe?

Question: I would like to buy a persimmon tree both for ornamental and fruit eating purposes. How does the apple persimmon compare to the regular persimmon tree? Is the fruit of the apple persimmon edible also when soft-ripened or only when firm?

Answer: The fruit of the apple persimmon is edible. There are two trees from which to choose: FUYU PERSIMMON - JIRO bears medium size, flat shaped fruit which is still hard when ripe. It is considered non-astringent. Grows in a cool or hot climate. Hardy, attractive tree, practically pest free. Fall harvest. Self- fruitful.

GIANT FUYU PERSIMMON fruit is larger, not so flat as Fuyu. Crunchy when
ripe like Fuyu. Sweet, flavorful, non-astringent. Easy to grow, cool or hot
climates. Fall harvest. Self-fruitful.
