Aucuba japonica or gold dust plant does best in soil that is slightly acidic, organic and humusy, evenly moist and yet well drained. It will do best in morning-only sun or bright dappled light all day and with protection from winter winds. Keep it mulched year round with several inches of organic mulch such as pine fines. Top dress with compost and/or a slow release fertilizer for acid loving plants such as Hollytone in the spring per the label directions. Please do not add salt to it, this could damage the roots and possibly even kill the plant. |
