The Q&A Archives: Nandina (heavenly bamboo)

Question: Thank you for you answer for my previous question.
I would like to know if the NANDINA will spread a lot and need a plastic boundary or something to prevent it from growing too wild.
Thanks again for your replies.

Answer: Nandina tends to colonize an area by slowly spreading out. It's not quite as aggressive as bamboo but the original clump will get larger each year. If you plan on digging and dividing every 5 years or so, you won't need to confine the plant with a barrier. If you want to plant it and forget it, a barrier will keep it contained.

Best wishes with your garden!
